MILES GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

The Purdue University Center for Cancer Research is pleased to announce that it has $ 1,200 scholarships available for Graduate Students thanks to funds available through our Miles Graduate Scholarship endowment.  We are able to award at least one and up to five scholarships of $ 1,200 each.  The meritorious nature applications received will determine the final award distribution.  We are currently soliciting nominations from our Center faculty members (only) for outstanding graduate students undertaking cancer-related research. 

Criteria:  Only students in good standing (minimum GPA = 3.0 or higher) working for their Ph.D. degree may apply.  Students must have passed the oral prelims and/or be admitted to Ph.D. candidacy before February 1, 2014. Student research training accomplishments will be reviewed (this can be, but is not limited to: publication record, contribution to extramural grants, any other awards or Patent Disclosures)

A “Mandatory Information Form” must be submitted with your application.  It can be obtained from our web page or by e-mailing smallgrants@purdue.edu.

The following should be included in the application.  Student summary should not to exceed two single spaced typed pages, have Helvetica/Arial 11 point font or larger, and ½ inch margins:

  1. Mandatory Information Form with appropriate signatures (not included in page limit)
     
  2. Summary of research accomplishment by the student.  For example, publication record, contribution to extramural grants, any other awards or Patent Disclosures.
     
  3. Letter of recommendation from the major professor which must include a paragraph stating the cancer relevance of the student’s research training education (not included in page limit).

This award will be distributed through the Bursar’s office towards the student’s fees for the next applicable semester.  The net surplus will be returned to the student as a cash award.
