Chang-Deng Hu, Associate Professor of Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology
Research in my lab is focused on the role or transcription factor AP-1 in breast cancer cell growth, differentiation and death. We are particularly interested in the the radiosensitization and chemosensitization by targeting transcription factors. With the use of novel imaging technology we developed, we have recently demonstrated that the transcription factor NF-kappaB may confer the resistance of breast cancer cells toradiation therapy and chemotherapy by physically interacting with the Fos-Jun heterodimer and inhibiting the Ap-1 transcriptional activity. Efforts are directed to identify small molecules that can disrupt the interaction and sensitize the breast cancer cells to radiation therapy and chemotherapy.
